I hope you are having a great summer! The office staff and I are back and busily putting together the office while our fantastic facilities crew readies the building for staff and students. Teachers return to school on August 13 and will be at conferences and participating in planning and professional development here at school as they prepare for our wonderful students. We are all looking forward to seeing you on August 17 from 4:30 to 5:30 at our Back to School meet and greet. This is a time to introduce yourselves to the teachers and see the classrooms prior to our big start on Monday, August 20. In keeping with Polaris tradition, class assignments will be finalized and available on Parent Portal at noon on August 17. (Please note: any class assignment that is/was viewed in Parent Portal prior to August 17 is merely a placeholder and not an actual assignment.)
We are excited that second through fourth grades will be platooning next year. This means that each child in these grades will have all the teachers. This allows teachers to be specialists in the area in which they teach. We feel this is especially important for gifted students because teachers need to be able to remediate, compact curriculum and accelerate curriculum depending on student needs so they really must be experts in the content area.
We are also thrilled to have our school psychologist, Lisa Strassburger with us full time. She will be providing direct social emotional curriculum and support weekly in every classroom and then consulting with teachers at data meetings in addition to providing teachers with tips and tools as well as content for their morning class meetings.
On Monday, August 20, for the first day of school, students (and parents if you so desire) will meet on the blacktop at 8:40. Teachers will hold signs with their name and grade so that students can easily find their homeroom. After a brief welcome, students will say good-bye to their parents (if present) and classes will be dismissed to their rooms to begin the year.
I know you will be interested in the nuts and bolts of each classroom and grade! We will be hosting curriculum night on August 30. Please stay tuned for more details.
If you have not done so, please go into Parent Portal on Infinite Campus and complete your annual family update. If not complete by Monday, August 6, our office staff must go in and manually complete it for you. If you need assistance, please call Ana or Pamela in the main office at 720-424-7860.
Some of our students have health needs or other individualized plans. If your child is one of these students, we will be contacting you.
If you have needs or questions prior to August 17, please feel free to contact me. Continue enjoying your summer, and get ready for a great year!
