Thursday, Feb. 9, is Pajama Day at Polaris. In conjunction with this event, Student Council is organizing a food drive to benefit The Gathering Place and The Denver Rescue Mission. All children will be asked to bring canned goods or non-perishable food items to school that day. Parent volunteers are needed in the morning to help gather the food from classrooms, divide it for the two organizations, and then deliver it. I anticipate that your time commitment will be about 1.5 hours. If you are able to help with this wonderful school-wide effort, please sign up on the SLY REPLY below.
Box Tops for Education has several ways to support Polaris:
Go to BoxTops Marketplace. Click the “Join Box Tops” tab at the top right, choose “Polaris at Ebert” for the school, and provide the personal information required for your individual account. The online stores include Land’s End, Nordstrom, Gap, Home Depot, Apple iTunes, Patagonia, Petsmart, Office Depot, Kohl’s , Macy’s, Sears, Old Navy, and many more. For a complete list, click here. Polaris will receive a percentage of your purchase.
At the BoxTops Reading Room, sponsored by Barnes & Noble, up to 6% of your purchase will be donated to Polaris. Delivery is free if you spend $25 on eligible products.
Last but not least, use the coupon redemption method. Look for products with Box Tops logos. Click here for a complete list of products. Each coupon is worth 10 cents. It’s easy—save, clip, and drop them in the large Cheerios box in the office or send them to your child’s teacher.
Thank you for supporting Polaris!
Mark your calendars for Thursday, Feb. 9 for the Seventh Annual PJ Day. That’s the day that you and your school can, once again, put on your best flannels, make a donation and partner with Denver’s Road Home to end homelessness. Students can write an essay or draw a picture of “What Home Means to Me” to submit for display at the school and at the evening PJ party and participating restaurants on PJ Day. Polaris’ Student Council sold “Winter Wishes” in the month of December to raise money for children in Africa to go to school. Thanks to the amazing support from the Polaris community, the kids surpassed their expectations. They had hoped to send five children to school, but were beyond surprised at the final outcome. The kids were able to raise $910.52, enough to send 15 kids to school in Africa! This is astounding and it all happened because the kids put their mind to a cause and found a way to change lives. Thanks to all who bought candy canes, you truly helped change the life of a child!
The Polaris @ Ebert Yearbook Committee is busy compiling our 2011/2012 yearbook. This year’s color edition will cost $16 per copy.
We will also continue to set aside pages in the yearbook for parents to purchase messages/dedications to offer kids congratulations on a year well spent or words of encouragement for their endeavors into the next grade. We use this as an opportunity to offset the cost of the yearbook and provide financial assistance to families in need. Dedication space will be offered on a “first come first serve” basis. Pricing for the dedications is as follows:
• $5 for a single line dedication (text only, limit 120 characters)
• $25 for a 2″ x 3″ dedication (text and artwork/photo)
• $40 for a 4″ x 3″ dedication (text with artwork/photo).
Ordering information will be sent home in your child’s Thursday folder in the New Year. Yearbook and dedication orders will be due in early March.

Principal Johnson is excited to celebrate the children’s hard work and success during the Jogathon with a school-wide dance party. The classes will be rotating through the gym tomorrow morning (Friday, Jan 13) and will enjoy snacks, dancing and music as spun by our very own Danny Mey.
As always, parents, thank you for your support of time and money to make the Jogathon such a success. The total raised this year was $9,365, which is very good given that the Polaris Annual Fund kickoff party was happening simultaneously. The children took great pride in their efforts and definitely deserve to be celebrated! Thank you.
