On Friday September 26th, Polaris was fortunate enough to have Mat Heagerty visit our school all day. He presented to every grade level. Mat spoke to the students about his process for creating graphic novels. He told them about how he collaborates with many people to create his books. It was a super informative presentation. Then Mat asked the students for ideas and he drew pictures with them. It was a very collaborative activity. Once the picture was drawn he then had students tell the story of what was happening in the picture. It was so engaging and fun!
This visit has inspired many of our students to try their hand a writing a graphic novel. The DPS Library Department is sponsoring a Student Showcase at the DPS STEAM Expo on May 2, 2026.
